Paris Faro 2h05 €11,000–€16,000 Up to 50 €220–€320 ★★★★☆ Well suited to leisure and incentive groups heading to the Algarve coast.

Paris Marrakech 2h45 €14,000–€19,500 Up to 50 €280–€390 ★★★★★ One of the Saab 2000's ideal missions: a fast, direct group transfer at a fraction of the cost of a regional jet.
Paris Istanbul 3h15 €16,500–€23,000 Up to 50 €330–€460 ★★★★★ Near the edge of the aircraft's practical range; ideal for full groups needing a direct connection without a regional jet's cost.

*Indicative price per passenger based on a full 50-passenger charter. Group airliner charters are priced by aircraft and flight hours, not by individual seat.

The prices shown are estimates and do not constitute a firm offer. The final Saab 2000 charter cost may vary depending on aircraft positioning, group size, airport charges, operating fees, taxes, seasonality, crew logistics and last-minute availability.

The Saab 2000 delivers its greatest value on group flights between 1 and 3.5 hours where passenger count and cost per seat matter more than cabin luxury. For groups under 20 passengers, Artheau Aviation may recommend a smaller turboprop or business aircraft; for routes beyond roughly 2,800 km or groups above 50 passengers, a larger turboprop or regional jet charter may be more suitable.

Why charter a Saab 2000?

The Saab 2000 was built to deliver near-jet cruise speeds on regional routes while keeping the fuel efficiency and short-runway flexibility of a turboprop. With a cabin seating up to 50 passengers and a cruise speed of up to 685 km/h, it closes most of the time gap with a regional jet at a significantly lower hourly rate. A key factor for anyone comparing airliner group charter prices.

The Saab 2000 is particularly suited to sports federations and clubs transporting teams and supporters, companies running multi-site staff shuttles, tour operators and incentive travel organisers, and event or festival logistics teams who need to move a full group quickly between regional airports.

As an independent charter broker, we recommend the Saab 2000 when your mission involves a group of roughly 20 to 50 passengers, a flight of one to three and a half hours, and the need to land close to your final destination on a regional airport. For smaller groups or very short hops, we may recommend a lighter aircraft; for larger groups orlonger routes, a bigger turboprop or regional jet charter can be a better fit.

What missions is the Saab 2000 best suited for?

The Saab 2000 is designed for group missions where speed, cost per passenger and regional airport access are priorities.

✓ Sports team and federation charters: teams, coaching staff, supporters and equipment travelling together to matches and tournaments.
✓ Corporate group shuttles: multi-site staff transport, roadshows and site visits across Europe.
✓ MICE and incentive travel: conferences, seminars and reward trips for groups of up to 50 people.
✓ Festival, concert and major event logistics: artists, crews and VIP guests requiring flexible scheduling.
✓ Film, TV and production crew transport: full production teams and equipment moved on tight schedules.
✓ Tour operator and group leisure charters: package groups travelling to leisure destinations.
✓ Humanitarian, relief and government logistics: rapid deployment of personnel and light cargo.
✓ Positioning and ad hoc regional group flights: last-minute group transport between regional hubs.

As a charter broker, Artheau Aviation recommends the Saab 2000 whenever a mission requires a fast, cost-efficient group transfer with access to regional airports. For smaller parties or premium comfort requirements, we may recommend a business aircraft instead.

The story behind the Saab 2000

The Saab 2000 programme was launched in May 1989 as a stretched, swept-wing derivative of the Saab 340, designed to give airlines a 50-seat turboprop with genuinely jet-like cruise speeds. The first aircraft flew on 26 March 1992 in Linköping, Sweden.

Certified by EASA and the FAA, the Saab2000 entered commercial service in September 1994. Crossair, the Swiss regionalairline, became its launch customer and operated the largest Saab 2000 fleet, connecting secondary European airports with major hubs at speeds few turbopropscould match.

Only 63 aircraft were built before production ended in April 1999, as the rise of 50-seat regional jets reshaped the market. Despite the limited production run, the Saab 2000 built a reputation for reliability and performance, and other operators. Including Regional Airlines in France, Eastern Airways and Loganair in the United Kingdom, Pen Air in Alaska, and General Motors’ corporate shuttle. Added the type to their fleets. Special mission variants have also served with the Pakistan Air Force and the Royal Saudi Air Force.

Today, well-maintained Saab 2000s remainactive worldwide for VIP and group charter, special missions and regionaloperations, valued for a cruise speed of up to 685 km/h that is still uncommonamong turboprop airliners.

When to choose a different aircraft than the Saab 2000?

Although the Saab 2000 offers one ofthe best speed-to-cost ratios for group turboprop charter, it is not always the right choice.

You may want to choose another aircraft instead of the Saab 2000 if:

•            You are travelling with fewer than 20 passengers on a short regional flight. A smaller turboprop or a business aircraft such as a King Air 350 usually provides a more cost-effective charter.

•            You need to transport more than 50 passengers or require a wider cabin. Aircraft such as the ATR 72-600 or the Dash 8-400 (Q400) offer up to 70–78 seats.

•            Your route exceeds around 2,800km or your schedule leaves no room for a fuel stop. A regional jet such as theEmbraer ERJ 145 offers comparable capacity with a longer effective range andhigher cruise speed, at a higher hourly rate.

At Artheau Aviation, we do not recommend the Saab 2000 simply because it is available. As an independent charter broker, we compare certified operators across turboprop and regional jet categories to identify the aircraft that best matches your group size, itinerary and budget.

Saab 2000 vs other regional turboprops and jets

Compare the Saab 2000 with other regional turboprops and jets based on passenger capacity, range, cruise speed, indicative charter rate and the type of mission each aircraft is best suited for.

Comparison of the Saab 2000 with similar regional turboprops and jets
Aircraft Seats Range Max cruise speed Indicative price* Best suited for
ATR 72-600 Up to 70 1,528 km / 825 nm 510 km/h From €3,200/hour Larger groups on shorter regional routes where lower cruise speed is not a constraint.
De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) Up to 78 2,040 km / 1,100 nm 667 km/h From €4,600/hour Larger groups needing turboprop speed comparable to the Saab 2000 with more available seats.
Embraer ERJ 145 Up to 50 2,871 km / 1,550 nm 833 km/h From €5,800/hour The same seat count with jet speed and comfort, for missions where budget is secondary to schedule.
ATR 42-600 Up to 48 1,345 km / 726 nm 556 km/h From €2,900/hour Smaller groups or shorter regional hops where operating cost is the main priority.

*Indicative hourly charter rates only. Final prices vary depending on the selected aircraft, positioning, routing, airport charges, taxes, crew logistics, seasonality and availability.

The Saab 2000 does not offer the largest seat count in its category, but it provides one of the strongest balances between cruise speed, airport accessibility and cost per passenger. Aircraft such as the ATR 72-600 or Dash 8-400 may be more suitable for larger groups, while the Embraer ERJ 145 is a faster but costlier alternative when schedule takes priority over budget. The Saab 2000 remains a proportionate choice for groups of up to 50 passengers on medium-haul European routes.

Saab 2000 FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about Saab 2000 charter prices, range, passenger capacity, regional airport access and the group booking process with Artheau Aviation.

01

How much does it cost to charter a Saab 2000?

The cost of chartering a Saab 2000 depends on your itinerary, group size, flight duration, aircraft availability, positioning flights and airport charges. As a general guide, prices start from around €3,800 per flight hour. Every group charter is quoted individually to reflect the exact mission requirements.

02

How many passengers can the Saab 2000 accommodate?

The Saab 2000 typically accommodates up to 50 passengers, depending on the selected cabin configuration. Some charter layouts prioritise a full 50-seat capacity for group travel, while others use a reduced configuration of 40 to 48 seats for greater comfort.

03

What is the range of the Saab 2000?

With a maximum range of 2,870 km (1,549 nautical miles), the Saab 2000 can cover most intra-European and regional routes nonstop. Typical group missions include Paris–Marrakech, Paris–Istanbul and Paris–Malta, subject to payload, weather and operational conditions.

04

How fast does the Saab 2000 fly?

The Saab 2000 cruises at up to 685 km/h (370 knots), making it one of the fastest turboprop airliners ever built. This delivers block times close to a regional jet while retaining turboprop fuel efficiency and short-runway capability.

05

Is the Saab 2000 suitable for sports team and event travel?

Yes. Its 50-seat capacity, competitive cost per passenger and fast block times make the Saab 2000 a popular choice for sports team charters, supporter travel and event logistics across Europe.

06

Is the Saab 2000 suitable for corporate group travel?

Yes. The Saab 2000 is well suited to corporate shuttles, staff transport between sites, incentive travel and MICE groups thanks to its speed, capacity and access to regional airports close to the final destination.

07

Can the Saab 2000 operate from smaller regional airports?

Yes. The Saab 2000 offers strong short-runway performance, with a takeoff distance of around 1,530 m, allowing it to access many regional airports that are unsuitable for larger regional jets. This can bring your group closer to its final destination.

08

How much baggage can the Saab 2000 carry?

The Saab 2000 offers a 12 m³ baggage compartment, generally sufficient for a full group's luggage on a typical charter, depending on bag dimensions and passenger count.

09

Saab 2000 vs ATR 72-600: which one should I choose?

The ATR 72-600 offers more seats, while the Saab 2000 offers a notably higher cruise speed and faster block times. The best choice depends on your group size, route length and schedule priorities. Artheau Aviation recommends the aircraft that best fits the mission rather than promoting one model systematically.

10

Can I charter a Saab 2000 at short notice?

Yes. Subject to aircraft availability and operational approvals, a Saab 2000 can sometimes be arranged within 24 to 48 hours. Booking further in advance generally provides a wider choice of aircraft and better positioning options for your group.

11

Why book through Artheau Aviation instead of directly with an operator?

Artheau Aviation compares a worldwide network of certified operators to identify the most suitable Saab 2000 for your group mission. We review aircraft availability, cabin configuration, positioning costs, airport charges and operational constraints, while providing one dedicated point of contact throughout the flight.

12

How do I request a Saab 2000 charter quote?

Share your itinerary, preferred travel dates, group size and any special requirements with our team. You can also use our charter price calculator for an indicative estimate before one of our brokers prepares a personalised quotation based on live aircraft availability.
