Nicknamed Ruslan, the Antonov AN-124 made history in 1982 as one of the most powerful cargo aircraft ever built. Developed in Ukraine by the Antonov Design Bureau, it was for many years the largest cargo aircraft in the world, until it was surpassed by its bigger sibling, the AN-225 Mriya. Measuring 69 meters in length with a wingspan of 73 meters, it remains today one of the most impressive aircraft still in service.
Its immense cargo hold, 36 meters long, 6.4 meters wide and 4.4 meters high, can carry outsize shipments that would not fit inside any other aircraft. From industrial turbines and trains to helicopters, energy infrastructure, military equipment or humanitarian aid. The AN-124 is designed for missions that demand extraordinary capacity.
With a payload of over 120 tonnes and the ability to fly intercontinental routes with technical stops, it remains an indispensable asset for global logistics.
