Istanbul remains one of the main business aviation crossroads between Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. The city attracts corporate travel, private stays and multi-leg rotations linked to the international events that follow one another throughout the year.
The majority of private flights to Istanbul originate from Paris, London, Geneva, Milan, Zurich, Dubai and Riyadh. The clientele consists of executives, family offices, regional investors and travellers combining business with an extended stay on the Bosphorus.
Three airports serve the metropolis. Atatürk (ISL/LTBA) remains the reference airfield for business aviation thanks to the GAT terminal, fully dedicated to private jets. Istanbul Airport (IST/LTFM) is gaining momentum with the planned opening of the Jetex terminal in March 2026, geared towards intercontinental long-haul operations. Sabiha Gökçen (SAW/LTFJ), on the Asian shore, primarily serves passengers staying on the Asian side or routing towards the Gulf and Asia-Pacific.
During busy periods — Fashion Week, Istanbul Marathon, international summits — pressure increases on aircraft availability and time slots. It is generally advisable to plan ahead during these periods.
As an independent broker, Artheau Aviation does not operate its own fleet. We compare the charter market to select the actually available aircraft best suited to your mission, based on your route, passenger count and current operational constraints. In practice: we have no interest in directing you towards one aircraft type over another.
Which airport should you choose for a private jet to Istanbul?

Atatürk Airport (ISL/LTBA)
Former international hub converted in 2019, Atatürk is now Turkey's main airfield dedicated to business aviation. Located 15 km west of the historic centre, it hosts the GAT (General Aviation Terminal), an 8,000 sqm facility entirely reserved for private jets.
The GAT brings together the market's leading operators: Celebi Aviation, MNG Jet and Istanbul Jet Center. The airfield has runways of 3,000 and 2,999 metres and can accommodate around a hundred aircraft simultaneously, from the Citation CJ to the Gulfstream G650. CIQ clearance takes 20 minutes on average.
Allow around 15 minutes to reach the Levent-Maslak business district, and 25 minutes to the old city. This is the most commonly used airfield for both business trips and stays in Istanbul.
Istanbul Airport (IST/LTFM)
Opened in 2018, the new Istanbul Airport is progressively positioning itself for business aviation with the planned opening of the Jetex terminal in March 2026. Located 35 km northwest of the centre, on the European shore.
The future Jetex terminal will cover 15,000 sqm, with dedicated lounges, rest areas and parking suited to long-range aircraft (Gulfstream G700, Global 7500). Runways measure 3,750 and 4,100 metres in ILS Cat III. Before March 2026, private jets transit through provisional facilities with more limited capabilities.
Allow around 45 minutes to the historic centre, longer during rush hour. Istanbul Airport remains the relevant choice for intercontinental flights (Europe-Asia, transatlantic) and for passengers heading to the northern districts (Maslak, Sarıyer). The distance to the centre requires planning road logistics ahead of time.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW/LTFJ)
Located on the Asian shore, 35 km southeast of the Bosphorus, Sabiha Gökçen is a relevant alternative for passengers staying on the Asian side (Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Çamlıca) or for routes towards the Gulf and Asia-Pacific. The airfield hosts the ExecuJet FBO.
Two 3,000-metre runways in ILS Cat I accommodate all categories of private jets, from the Phenom 300 to the Falcon 8X. CIQ clearance generally takes 20 to 35 minutes via the ExecuJet FBO.
Allow 45 to 60 minutes to reach the European historic centre via the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. The airport operates 24/7. This option is primarily used for stays on the Asian shore or when Atatürk presents availability constraints.

Which aircraft category should you choose for Istanbul?
The right aircraft for Istanbul depends on three things: the route, the number of passengers and the operational constraints. The broker's job is to cross-reference those with actual charter market availability on the day — especially during peaks linked to Fashion Week, the marathon or international summits.
On short European routes (Paris, Geneva, Zurich, Milan), the most common choice is a Citation CJ3+, Phenom 300E or Citation XLS+. Flight time 2h30 to 4h00, 6 to 8 passengers, good balance between cost and cabin comfort. These aircraft are well represented on the European market, which makes positioning easier even during busy periods.
On medium-haul routes to the Gulf (Dubai, Doha, Riyadh) or Eastern Europe, the choice shifts to Midsize: Challenger 350, Hawker 4000, Citation Sovereign+, 8 to 9 passengers, 3h00 to 5h00 flight time. More cabin space, more range, no technical stop.
For long-haul connections (Central Asia, Southeast Asia, United States), we move to Long Range: Gulfstream G650ER, Falcon 8X, Global 7500, range exceeding 12 hours. Istanbul sits on routes that sometimes involve overflying sensitive zones — we handle the routing, overflight permits and CIQ coordination for each mission.
Since we don’t operate our own fleet, we’re not bound to sell any particular aircraft: we select the one genuinely available at the best conditions for your slot, balancing cost, cabin, range and repositioning.

FAQ
The choice depends on your final destination and aircraft type. Atatürk (ISL/LTBA) remains the reference airfield for business aviation: dedicated infrastructure, GAT terminal, fast CIQ (20 minutes on average), and immediate proximity to Levent-Maslak (15 minutes) and the historic centre (25 minutes). This is the most common choice for short and medium-haul jets.
Istanbul Airport (IST/LTFM) will become more relevant with the opening of the Jetex terminal in March 2026, particularly for intercontinental long-haul aircraft. Sabiha Gökçen (SAW/LTFJ), on the Asian shore, suits passengers staying on the Asian side or routing towards the Gulf and Southeast Asia. The crossing to the European shore takes 45 to 60 minutes by road.
Atatürk (LTBA) has the shortest times: allow 15 to 25 minutes on average via the GAT terminal, thanks to dedicated counters and prioritised passport control. The FBO teams (Celebi Aviation, MNG Jet) assist each passenger on site.
Istanbul Airport (LTFM) currently requires 30 to 45 minutes via the provisional facilities. These times should drop to 20-30 minutes once the Jetex terminal is operational. Sabiha Gökçen (LTFJ) sits in between, at 20 to 35 minutes via the ExecuJet FBO. These times can increase during traffic peaks (Fashion Week, marathon, international summits). Artheau Aviation coordinates with the local FBOs ahead of time to limit ground time.
Artheau Aviation focuses on private jet charter. We do not manage ground transfers or helicopter connections to final destinations.
All three Istanbul airports have adjacent heliports. A helicopter transfer between airports saves time compared to the road (10 to 15 minutes versus 45 to 60 minutes), particularly for a connection between Sabiha Gökçen (Asian shore) and the European shore. The local FBOs (Celebi Aviation, Jetex, ExecuJet) can direct you to suitable helicopter providers.
