What's app

Gstaad is one of the most sought-after Alpine destinations for business aviation, particularly between December and March. The resort has its own airfield at Saanen, less than 3 km away — a rare asset in the mountains — but it is also a demanding field: a short 1,400 m runway, 1,001 m elevation, VFR-only approaches and no night flights.

In practice, only turboprops and light jets can land directly at Saanen. For larger aircraft, the flight lands at Geneva, Zurich or Bern, with a road journey of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to the resort depending on the season.

Chartering a private jet to Gstaad requires a solid understanding of the airfield’s constraints. In winter, parking stands at Saanen are very limited and demand remains strong — planning ahead is essential.

As an independent broker, Artheau Aviation compares the full charter market and selects the aircraft suited to Saanen’s real constraints: aircraft type compatible with the runway, slot availability and weather conditions.

Which airport should you favour to reach Gstaad by private jet?

Gstaad-Saanen Airport (ZKC/LSGK)

Saanen Airport is located 2.8 km from Gstaad. It is a mountain airfield entirely dedicated to private aviation — no commercial terminal, which means a swift passage from arrival to exit.

Key features

→ Codes: IATA ZKC / ICAO LSGK

→ Elevation: 1,001 m

→ Runway: single 1,400 m strip

→ Hours: generally 08:00 to 18:00, no night flights

→ Approach: daytime VFR only, with no instrument landing system. Flight crews must hold a specific qualification for this airfield.

Operational constraints

The 1,400 m runway at over 1,000 m elevation limits the aircraft types: turboprops (Pilatus PC-12, King Air) and light jets (Citation Mustang, CJ2) are the standard categories. Large-cabin aircraft must land at Bern, Zurich or Geneva.

In winter (December to February), demand is very high and parking stands fill up fast. Booking well in advance is strongly recommended for this period.

Which aircraft category should you choose for Gstaad?

Selecting the right aircraft for Gstaad depends primarily on the constraints of the Saanen runway (1,400 m, elevation 1,001 m) and on the distance to be covered.

→ Short flights and intra-Swiss connections: for trips to Geneva, Zurich or Nice, turboprops (Pilatus PC-12) and Very Light Jets (Citation Mustang, CJ1/CJ2) remain the reference aircraft, thanks to their short-runway performance.

→ Regional or medium-haul flights: for Paris, Munich or Frankfurt, Light Jets (Citation CJ2+, Phenom 300) offer the best balance between cabin comfort and range, while remaining compatible with Saanen.

→ Long-haul flights: Heavy Jets (Gulfstream G600, G700) cannot operate from Saanen. These flights depart from Geneva, Zurich or Sion. The road journey from Gstaad to these airports typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

Our teams select the aircraft best suited to the real constraints of each route, factoring in runway compatibility, weather conditions and slot availability at Saanen.

FAQ

Is Gstaad-Saanen Airport open at night?

No: Saanen Airport generally operates from 08:00 to 18:00 and does not allow night flights. All operations are conducted under VFR (visual flight rules), in line with the specific requirements of this mountain airfield.

For late arrivals, the alternative is to land at Bern, Zurich or Geneva, then reach Gstaad by road (roughly 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the airport). Our teams plan the air routing with these time constraints in mind.

Which aircraft can land or take off at Gstaad?

The 1,400-metre Saanen runway is primarily compatible with turboprops and light jets, while helicopters are also permitted. This configuration allows direct service for the vast majority of European missions.

Large-cabin aircraft, on the other hand, must land at Bern, Zurich or Geneva. Our teams then coordinate the transfer to Gstaad, by helicopter or car, in order to ensure a seamless transition from long-haul flight to resort arrival.

Can I book a last-minute flight to Gstaad?

Yes: Artheau Aviation arranges flights to Gstaad at short notice, including for last-minute requests. However, during the high winter season, demand at Saanen is very strong and parking is limited — booking ahead remains the best way to access the right aircraft at the right price.

For reference, here are indicative one-way price ranges to Gstaad-Saanen:

→ Geneva–Saanen on a Pilatus PC-12: approx. €5,000

→ Paris–Saanen on a Citation CJ2+: approx. €9,500

→ London–Saanen on a Phenom 300: approx. €12,000

→ Zurich–Saanen on a turboprop: approx. €4,000

These prices vary depending on season, availability and aircraft positioning. For long-haul flights requiring a heavy jet, the flight lands at Geneva or Zurich, and pricing is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
