Lisbon remains one of the main business aviation gateways between Europe and the Americas. The city attracts both corporate travel and private stays, driven by Portugal's economic momentum and a busy events calendar — notably the Web Summit every November.
Most private flights to Lisbon originate from Paris, London, Geneva, Zurich and Madrid. There is also a steady transatlantic flow from New York, Miami and São Paulo. The clientele ranges from executives and family offices to yacht owners in transit and private travellers drawn to the Estoril coast, Comporta or the Belém district.
Two airports structure private aviation access to the capital. LPPT (Humberto Delgado) handles all aircraft types, including heavy jets on transatlantic routes. LPCS Cascais, exclusively dedicated to private aviation, provides direct access to the Estoril coast and Sintra.
As an independent broker, Artheau Aviation compares charter market availability and selects the aircraft genuinely suited to each mission. In practice: we have no interest in directing you towards one aircraft type over another — we simply pick the one that matches your journey.
Which airport should you choose for a private jet to Lisbon?

Lisbon Portela Airport (LPPT/LIS)
Humberto Delgado Airport (LPPT/LIS) is Portugal's main business aviation platform. Its 3,805-metre runway accommodates all aircraft types without restriction, from Light Jets to long-range aircraft such as the Gulfstream G650 or Global 7500.
The airport sits 7 km from the city centre. Allow 15 to 20 minutes to reach the Avenida da Liberdade area. The executive terminal provides expedited processing — immigration and customs handled in around fifteen minutes. Coordination with local FBOs (ExecuJet, Universal Aviation) covers fuelling and parking.
LPPT operates around the clock, with minor noise restrictions between 23:00 and 06:00. It is the natural choice for transatlantic flights, heavy jets and business travel to the historic centre. Allow around 25 minutes to Estoril and 30 minutes to Sintra via the A1.
Cascais Airport (LPCS/CAT)
Cascais Municipal Airport (LPCS/CAT) is exclusively dedicated to private aviation — no commercial traffic. Its 1,481-metre runway accommodates light and super-light jets: Citation CJ3+, Phenom 300, PC-24, HondaJet Elite. Heavy jets cannot land here.
Located on the Estoril coast, 20 km west of Lisbon, LPCS offers quick access to Cascais-Estoril residences (10 to 15 minutes) and Sintra (25 minutes). It is the most direct option for short stays on the coast.
Operating hours: 08:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 19:00 at weekends, with extensions available on request. From April to October, weather conditions are very favourable (VFR over 85% of the time), facilitating visual approaches from the Atlantic. Should conditions deteriorate, LPPT remains accessible 30 minutes away by the coastal road.

Montijo Air Base (LPMT)
Located on the southern bank of the Tagus, 25 km from Lisbon, Montijo Air Base (LPMT) occasionally accepts private flights, but only with prior military authorisation. The minimum lead time is 72 hours.
Its 2,304-metre runway accommodates midsize jets and some heavy jets (Citation XLS+, Challenger 350, Legacy 600). The platform can serve as a backup during congestion at LPPT or LPCS, or for rotations towards Alentejo and Comporta.
Procedures remain complex: military clearance, handling provided by external operators, variable schedule restrictions. No permanent civilian FBO is based on site. LPPT and LPCS remain the preferred options for standard operations. Allow around 1h15 to Comporta and 1h30 to Alentejo via the A12.

Which aircraft should you choose for a private flight to Lisbon?
Aircraft selection depends on your departure point, passenger count and target arrival airport.
From Paris, London or Madrid, light jets such as the Citation CJ3+ or Phenom 300 cover the route in 2h to 2h30 for 6 to 8 passengers. These aircraft land at LPCS Cascais, giving direct access to the Estoril coast.
From Zurich, Geneva, Munich or Milan, Midsize Jets (Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP) offer a more spacious stand-up cabin for 8 to 9 passengers. They can land at either LPPT or LPCS depending on weather conditions.
For transatlantic flights from New York, Miami or Montreal, you need Heavy Jets such as the Gulfstream G650 or Global 7500 — flights of 7 to 10 hours, 12 to 16 passengers, operating exclusively from the LPPT executive terminal.
Artheau Aviation compares the charter market to select the aircraft genuinely available and suited to your mission: route, passenger count, scheduling constraints and final destination in Portugal.

FAQ
LPPT is the right choice for heavy jets, transatlantic flights and quick access to the city centre (7 km, allow 15 to 20 minutes). The executive terminal operates around the clock with full IFR capability.
LPCS Cascais suits light and super-light jets (CJ3+, Phenom 300). The infrastructure is 100% private, procedures are fast, and Estoril or Cascais is about ten minutes away. However, its 1,481-metre runway rules out heavy jets and hours are limited (08:00–21:00 on weekdays). When in doubt, LPPT is always available as a fallback.
The Web Summit (first week of November) saturates airport capacity 72 hours before and after the event. Planning 6 to 8 weeks ahead remains essential to secure a suitable aircraft and a workable slot at LPPT or LPCS.
Rates rise noticeably from around 30 days out. Availability on European heavy jets and midsize jets shrinks fast. During this period, Artheau Aviation compares the full market and can propose alternatives: repositioning, fallback airport (Faro, 2h30 by road), or adjusting the schedule by a few days.
Yes. A Citation CJ3+ or Phenom 300 covers Paris–Lisbon in around 2h10 (1,450 km) and London–Lisbon in 2h30 (1,600 km), landing at LPCS Cascais. The Estoril coast is then 10 to 15 minutes away.
For groups of 6 or more passengers, or with bulky luggage (golf, extended stays), a Midsize Jet such as the Hawker 900XP offers a stand-up cabin and a larger baggage hold. If your final destination is central Lisbon, LPPT is often the better choice — it also serves as an IFR fallback should weather deteriorate at Cascais.
