Madrid remains the main gateway to the Iberian Peninsula for business aviation. The Spanish capital hosts the headquarters of Telefónica, Santander, BBVA and Iberia, generating a steady corporate flow on the Paris, London and Frankfurt routes.
The events calendar also has a strong impact on traffic. The Mutua Madrid Open in spring, Real Madrid matches at the Santiago Bernabéu, F1 at the Circuit de Catalogne, FITUR in January and ARCO in February all create peaks in demand for aircraft and time slots. Better to plan ahead during these periods.
Three airports structure access to Madrid. Barajas Executive (MAD/LEMD) remains the primary airfield for long-haul flights and international connections. Torrejón (TOJ/LETO), with no commercial traffic, offers a smoother alternative for European flights. Cuatro Vientos (ECV/LECU) serves regional general aviation and light aircraft.
Madrid’s central position in the peninsula also makes it easy to chain destinations. Barcelona, Valencia, Seville or Lisbon can be reached in under 90 minutes. Many clients combine a business trip with a leg to another Spanish city.
As an independent broker, Artheau Aviation compares the charter market to select the available aircraft best suited to your mission. In practice, we have no reason to push one aircraft type over another — we simply pick the one that actually matches your route.

Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD/LEMD)
Barajas remains the reference airfield for business aviation in Madrid. The executive terminal hosts FBO services operated by Gestair and Jet Quine, with private lounges, equipped offices and dedicated customs clearance.
Runways 18L/36R (4,100 m) and 18R/36L (3,500 m) accommodate all aircraft types without restriction, including the largest long-haul jets. The airport operates 24/7 with ILS CAT III infrastructure.
During event periods (ATP, F1, FITUR), time slots become busier. More anticipation helps maintain flexibility on scheduling.
Allow around 13 km from the city centre, roughly 20 minutes outside peak traffic. Direct access to the main business districts.
Torrejón Air Base (TOJ/LETO)
A former military base converted for business aviation, Torrejón handles exclusively private and governmental traffic. The absence of commercial flights simplifies procedures and keeps time slots generally more accessible, including during event peaks.
The base has a single runway 23/05 measuring 3,810 metres. The FBO Gestair Torrejón handles ground operations with private lounges and dedicated customs clearance. Average processing time, from parking arrival to FBO exit, stays below 8 minutes for Schengen flights.
The airfield benefits from direct road access that avoids dense urban areas. Gestair Torrejón also coordinates helicopter transfers between Torrejón and other airport platforms in the region.
Allow around 22 km from the city centre, roughly 30 minutes via the A-2 motorway.

Madrid-Cuatro Vientos Airfield (ECV/LECU)
Cuatro Vientos primarily serves general aviation and light aircraft. The main runway 10/28 measures 1,350 metres, which limits operations to turboprops and Light Jets.
Operations are restricted to daytime hours (08:00 to 20:00 local time), with VFR weather conditions required. The airfield remains a practical option for short regional flights under 1h30 to Barcelona, Bilbao or Valencia.
Local FBOs provide handling suited to light aircraft such as the Citation Mustang, Phenom 100 or King Air. Proximity to the Casa de Campo park and private clubs (Country Club Villa de Madrid, Puerta de Hierro) makes it a convenient option for certain leisure trips.
Allow around 8 km from the city centre, roughly 15 minutes to the Salamanca district.

Which aircraft to choose for a flight to Madrid?
The right aircraft for Madrid depends on three things: the route, the number of passengers, and the operational constraints. The broker's job is to cross-reference these with the actual charter market availability on the day, especially during ARCO, Fashion Week or institutional summits, when demand on Torrejón and Barajas spikes sharply.
On short routes (Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, Geneva), the most common choice is a Citation CJ3+, a Phenom 300 or a Citation XLS. Flight time 1h15 to 2h00, 6 to 8 passengers, a good cost-to-cabin ratio. Torrejón handles this type of traffic easily.
On medium-haul routes (London, Milan, Zurich, Munich, Stockholm), the choice shifts to Midsize: Citation XLS+, Challenger 350, Falcon 2000. 8 to 9 passengers, 2h00 to 3h00 flight time, stand-up cabin and enough range to fly non-stop.
For long-haul routes (New York, Dubai, São Paulo, Mexico City), we move to Long Range: Global 6000, Gulfstream G650, BBJ. 14 to 16 passengers. Barajas takes over with infrastructure sized for heavy aircraft.
Since we don't operate our own fleet, we have no reason to push one aircraft over another: we select the one that is genuinely available at the best conditions for your slot, balancing cost, cabin, range and repositioning.

FAQ
It depends on your route. Barajas Executive remains the primary choice for long-haul flights and connections, with FBO services operated by Gestair and Jet Quine. Torrejón, with no commercial traffic, offers a smoother alternative, especially during event peaks.
Cuatro Vientos suits light regional flights. Our teams analyse your routing and constraints to recommend the most suitable option.
Yes. Madrid sees high activity during the Mutua Madrid Open (April-May), Liga matches and the FITUR and ARCO fairs (January-February). Handling slots at Barajas Executive become busier. Torrejón offers a smoother alternative during these periods.
Better to plan 10 to 15 days ahead during event peaks. In standard periods, 48 to 72 hours of flexibility is entirely feasible.
The Paris-Madrid route (around 1h20) and the London-Madrid route (around 2h10) are most often flown aboard a Citation CJ3, a Phenom 300 or a Citation XLS+. These aircraft offer a good balance of cost, comfort and flexibility for 6 to 8 passengers, with direct access to Torrejón or Barajas Executive.
For groups of more than 10 passengers, the Legacy 600 and the Falcon 2000 provide a more spacious cabin. The final choice depends on passenger count, cabin preferences and timing. Our teams adjust the proposal according to your configuration.
